Water parameters
Overview
The blue leg Poso shrimp is a Caridina species endemic to Lake Poso in the center of the island of Sulawesi. It is named after the bright blue legs beneath its semi-transparent, light brown body. Like the other lake shrimp of Sulawesi, it is adapted to warm, soft but alkaline water; it cannot cope with parameter swings. Breeding in the aquarium is possible but slow; wild-caught individuals are also found for sale.
Tank Setup
- 30 liters or more, a mature and stable aquarium.
- RO water with a Sulawesi mineral: GH 4–8, KH 2–5, pH 7.5–8.5; temperature 26–28°C.
- Inert sand, plenty of rocks and biofilm on the rock surfaces.
- Slow acclimation using the drip method; losses may occur in the first weeks.
Diet
Omnivorous; its main food is biofilm. It is supplemented with small amounts of shrimp food, powdered biofilm food and spirulina. Remove leftover food the same day.
Behavior and Compatibility
Peaceful; it grazes in groups on top of the rocks.
Good companions: Rabbit snails, nerite snails, other Sulawesi animals that need the same water.
Avoid: Neocaridina and bee shrimp (they need different water), fish, panther crabs, any product containing copper.
